Ann Brooks is principal consultant
at Ergonomics in Practice. She has considerable experience in ergonomics
consultancy and has an MSc in Ergonomics from Loughborough University and
an MA(Hons) degree in Experimental Psychology from Oxford University. Ann
is Chair of Membership Recruitment for the Ergonomics
Society and sits on their council. |

She started her career in ergonomics
at System Concepts Ltd, leaving to form Ergonomics in Practice in 1999.
Before becoming an ergonomist Ann worked for Mars Incorporated where she
managed projects in a variety of areas including logistics, market research,
sales, marketing and business planning. |

Ann has worked on a wide range of
ergonomics consultancy projects. These have included both industrial and
office ergonomics, as well as ergonomic design and usability. She is also
an experienced trainer. In addition to "mainstream" ergonomics Ann is formally
trained in the design of research projects, including questionnaire design
and data analysis techniques, and is a competent facilitator at focus groups. |

Some examples of her past projects
are:

Helping clients to comply with the Display Screen Equipment Regulations
and Manual Handling Operations Regulations (1992)

Helping clients with their office moves - ensuring that staff are happy
in the new environments, and that potential pitfalls of poor office layouts
are avoided

Observing and interviewing consumers to assist with the re-design of packinging
for a major food company

Advising clients on the health and safety aspects of portable computer
use

running the user-centred design process for a tool manufacturer so that
the final design was practical and easy to use

designing and conducting a major consumer research project for a large
retailer, leading to the generation of recommendations for in-store improvements
to equipment and layout

assessing display screen equipment (computer) workstations
-
designing a workstation to accommodate comfortably a specified population
of able bodied and disabled users
-
helping companies to avoid work related upper limb disorders in industrial
environments and to generate solutions to manual handling problems
-
working with a large car manufacturer to develop their ergonomics self
reliance programme
-
working for several companies to help them generate effective working environments
by creating office layouts and advising on the best use of space and equipment
